Salary: £26,832 - £28,146 per annum based on 37 hours per week (pro-rata for part-time) (Pay Award Pending)

Working Hours: 40.5 hours per week

Leicestershire County Council’s Contracts and Haulage Team are looking to recruit a Specialist HGV Driver to join the team. The role will primarily be responsible for servicing various internally owned waste sites around Leicestershire, keeping them in receipt of waste streams for our service users.

About the Role

The successful candidate will assist the Waste Management Supervisor and the team in providing the necessary services to process various types of waste in and out the Council’s facilities. 

The main duties will be driving 32t Hook loaders and collecting, delivering and manoeuvring containers and compactors around sites in Leicestershire, however there are many more aspects to the role that you will perform on a daily basis.

Ultimately our Specialist HGV drivers will need to ensure that the services are delivered for the benefit of the people of Leicestershire, to be responsible for maintaining effective partnerships and working relationships with statutory, voluntary, private agencies and communities to promote and meet the Council’s and Department’s services and objectives.

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • A full, Driving License and insurance for business use (commuting vehicle)
  • HGV - C Category Driving License (Minimum), and a drivers CPC
  • Knowledge of driver and vehicle practices. Experience of Use of specialist vehicle systems relevant to haulage of waste, such as hook loader and easy-sheet.
  • Have, or be willing to work towards:
    • Loading shovel/Plant tickets
    • Train the trainer
  • Significant experience driving HGVs. 

  • The ability to work well as part of a team

  • The ability to apply health and safety requirements to work tasks by following relevant documentation and applying sensible work practices
